The Survey

We are a group of Middlebury College seniors currently investigating resilience in Vermont as part of our Environmental Studies senior seminar capstone course. We are interested in hearing about who you are working with and your experiences.

Based on the literature we have read, including the draft recommendations from the recent Vermont state-wide dialogue on resilience, we define resilience as:

A dynamic social-ecological process based on groups working proactively to decrease vulnerabilities, engage in risk assessment and prepare for climate change in Vermont.

There are many groups working toward resilience in Vermont, whether explicitly or not, through energy planning, community development, land management, cultural preservation, and a variety of other means.

What we hope to learn from you:

  • Who you are and what you and/or your organization are doing

  • Your connections with other individuals and organizations on resilience-related work

We plan on mapping collaboration between individuals and/or organizations working toward resilience in Vermont. Visualizing the social connectivity of Vermonters will highlight where connections already exist and where new bridges can be built.

The survey should take 5-20 minutes for you to complete, depending on the number of connections you choose to share. We intend to follow up with organizations and individuals you identify to ask them to participate in our survey. In our final map and other products, we will only identify individuals by name with their consent.

By participating in this survey you consent for your information to be used by Middlebury College, Bright Blue Eco Media, and the Vermont Folklife Center. Your contributions will be published in an interactive online journal and showcased in a presentation at Middlebury College this December and at the Vermont Folklife Center in the spring of 2014. We welcome your attendance at any of these events!
